Welcome
My name is Gordon Baddeley. For most of my life I have been a poet and a writer, exploring the world through language, rhythm, and the quiet truths that rise from attentive observation. Over the past two decades, my creative path has grown to include another discipline: wood sculpture. Working with timber allows me to shape ideas in three dimensions, carving form, texture, and emotion into something tangible. My writing and my sculpture inform one another. The poems teach me to listen, to honour nuance, and to work with what is left unsaid; the wood teaches me patience, resilience, and the beauty of organic imperfection. Together they form a single artistic practice rooted in curiosity, craft, and a lifelong desire to translate experience into meaning. On this website you’ll find a selection of my sculptures, poems, and prose; works that reflect a continuing journey to understand both material and imagination, word and wood, the seen and the felt.
